Global Audience for Galway as Influential Media Visit

Top international media with a combined circulation of 80 million attend launch of Galway2020

A group of influential international media, with a combined circulation of 80 million, are in Galway this weekend to cover the launch of Galway2020.  The visit is being hosted by Fáilte Ireland, the national tourism development authority, in association with Tourism Ireland.

The group of 25 media from Canada, the USA and Europe represent media outlets in some of Ireland’s key tourism markets including The Guardian and The Observer in the UK, Globetrotter TV USA and online news site Le Parisien, France.

A bespoke itinerary was created by Fáilte Ireland to give the journalists the chance to experience Galway as the European Capital of Culture. While in Galway they will attend the opening ceremony of Galway2020, discover the iconic Kylemore Abbey & Walled Gardens, explore Derrigimlagh Bog, one of the Signature Discovery Points of the Wild Atlantic Way and take a Walking tour of Galway City with Liam Silke.

Liam Campbell, Manager of Fáilte Ireland’s International Publicity division stressed the importance of hosting international media:

“Bringing international media to Ireland and showing them what is on offer ensures that we get our message out to a global audience.  Our work generates the type of international audience reach and publicity that any competitive destination needs to sustain tourism growth.”

“We are thrilled to provide this group of media with a Céad Míle Fáilte and confident that their experiences will encourage more people to take in the culture of Galway and explore the epic landscapes of the Wild Atlantic Way.”

Last year, Fáilte Ireland, in collaboration with Tourism Ireland, showcased the country to 900 key travel journalists from print, broadcast and online channels from more than 20 countries. The combined audience reach of the international media hosted by Fáilte Ireland was 1.2Billion in 2019. Fáilte Ireland co-ordinated nearly 400 different itineraries resulting in the journalists meeting with over 7,000 Irish businesses across the country.
