Experience
The walk begins with a setting of the scene at theWriters’ Gallery in Dalkey
Castle, where a short film clip of Maeve Binchy talking about how she wrote
her novels is shown (one of Ireland’s most loved contemporary fiction writers,
recently deceased). Leaving the castle, walkers will enjoy snippets from the
work of Maeve Binchy, James Joyce, GB Shaw, Hugh Leonard, Flann O’Brien
and others.
The walk which takes 55 mins crosses various locations of significance
through the village of Dalkey, among them Maeve’s favourite pub, and will
finish in the Maeve Binchy Memorial Garden in Dalkey Library where there is
a mosaic to Maeve’s memory. Here, too, the Gordon Snell (Maeve’s husband,
himself a children’s author and scriptwriter) rose blooms when in season.
