Experience Description

The Butler Trail steeped deep in medieval heritage links the 3 towns of Carrick

on Suir, Clonmel and Cahir, Co Tipperary in a 38km drive with indulgent stops

at castles, cottages and courts! Each stop off point offers self-guided audio

tours in English, French and German allowing you to take it all in at your own

pace, discover hidden gems and mix with the locals.

Opening Details

The drive and audio guides are available all year round. The individual sites

are listed on

www.heritageireland.ie

.

Cahir Castle is open all year around,

Ormond Castle, The Main Guard and The Swiss Cottage are generally open

April to September. Duration of experience: one hour per town minimum to

complete the audio tours. Individual tours of the Butler sites are also available.

It takes 40 minutes to drive the route between Carrick on Suir, through to

Clonmel to Cahir.

Parking, Access/Ability & Special Requirements

Relevant to the Butler sites, not all areas of each site are accessible. The

individual sites may have max group sizes, check with each site before arriving

if you are in a group. Parking available in each town. Audio guides are on foot,

40 minutes walking, minimum levels of fitness required. No refreshments

to purchase at each site but coffee shops within easy reach of all accept the

Swiss Cottage, Cahir.
