Experience Description

Discover an ancient transport route constructed in the Iron Age at the Corlea

Trackway Visitor Centre. Located 3km from Kenagh village close to the River

Shannon in Co Longford. The oak road is the largest of its kind to have been

uncovered in Europe. Inside the building an 18 metre stretch of preserved

road is on permanent display in a specially designed hall with humidifiers to

prevent the ancient wood from cracking in the heat.

Experience Description

The Glen of Aherlow is a quiet country valley, secluded but not isolated. It

stretches from the N24, South of the heritage town of Tipperary, through

sixteen miles of unspoilt countryside affording some of the most breathtaking

scenery imaginable making it one of the most desirable holiday destinations

in Ireland. There are opportunities for walking, rambling, horseriding, cycling

and fishing. The Glen is renowned for the warmth of its welcome and the

friendship of its people. Choose from eight looped walks ranging from

2-10kms and two linear mountain trails.

Opening Details

Open seven days a week, 365 days a year, subject to severe weather

conditions. Duration of experience – minimum 1hr.

Parking, Access/Ability & Special Requirements

Coach parking available at Glen of Aherlow Fáilte office. There is no limitation

on group sizes to undertake these walks. Adequate level of fitness required.

Longer range walks are best suited to experienced walkers.Walking boots,

raingear, liquids, snacks and mobile phone as appropriate to the type of walk.

Refreshments available nearby at the village of Lisvernane 3kms/5mins,

Bansha 10kms/13mins and the town of Tipperary 10kms/13mins.
