Experience Description

30 min. tour. Visit Carrickmacross Lace Gallery to learn more of the history

of Carrickmacross Lace which has a long and rich tradition, having originated

in the early 1820’s. Its style was inspired by examples of Italian lace of that

era. At that time it became an important source of rural family income. It was

‘made by the poor for the rich and famous’. Today it is still worked by a small

group of people who are passionate about the beauty of fine, meticulously

stitched needlecraft.
