Home to Ireland’s most popular ale, the Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny®

opened its doors in July 2014. Housed in a restored Victorian brewing

building the multi-sensory experience takes visitors on a journey through the

medieval origins of brewing on the site, to the arrival of John Smithwick’s in

the 1700’s up to the present day. During the guided tour, the Smithwick’s

brewing process will be brought to life with visitors having the opportunity

to experience the smells, tastes and textures of the raw materials involved in

creating the perfect pint of ale.

The Ros Tapestry is a unique project which will bring you back in time to when

Dermot MacMurrough King of Leinster stole the wife of Tiernan O’Rourke,

a tale of marriages, stolen lands and intrigue. A tale told in thread. The first

tapestry was completed in 2002 and to date 14 of the 15 tapestries are

complete. In a group you may have a guided tour, or if you prefer an Audio

Guide this tour brings you back in time to explore the Norman Experience as

it happened. Guides available in English, French, Italian, and German.
