Experience Description

Step back in time on a visit to Glencolmcille Folk Village. In this isolated

settlement, you’ll explore several thatched cottages, getting a feel for what

life was like in Ireland spanning hundreds of years. Visit the fisherman’s

cottage, crammed full of fishing-related artefacts and stories. Hear the story

of Father James McDyer – who came to this isolated valley in 1951 and

helped to establish running water, electricity and industry. Sample the delights

at the Village’s tea room and craft shop, which has lots of traditional local

crafts such as weaving, knitting and spinning on show. Guided and self-guided

tours available. Self-guided materials available in French; German; Dutch;

Italian; Spanish; Polish.

Experience Description

Glenveagh National Park is a remote and hauntingly beautiful wilderness

of rugged mountains, pristine lakes, tumbling waterfalls and enchanted

native oak woodland in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains in the north

west of County Donegal. At the centre of the Park on the edge of Lough

Veagh is Glenveagh Castle. Guided tours of the Castle and Gardens (by prior

arrangement) are available. An audio visual tour on the history of the park and

castle is also available.

Literature available for the guided tour of the castle in French, German, Italian,

Dutch, Spanish.

Opening Details & Refreshments

The Park and Gardens are accessible all year round. Visitor Services facilities

open 0900-1730hrs from March to October and from 0830-1700hrs from

November to February. Tours are limited throughout the winter time. Visitors

are advised to contact the park in advance of visit. Restaurant & Tea Room

on site.

Car park and 12 coach bays. All areas of the park are accessible by wheelchair

users apart from the 2nd floor of the castle.
