WILD ATLANTICWAY – BAY COAST

Built on the foundations of an ancient castle belonging to legendary Irish pirate queen Gráinne Mhaol, it’s fitting that you’ll

learn about the area’s rich maritime history inside

Westport House .

Today, its opulent rooms reflect the lifestyles of its more

recent owners, including Maud Burke and her husband Colonel John Browne; they built the house we see today in 1650. Carry

on intoWestport Town when you’re done exploring, and immerse yourself in the buzz of Westport. Peruse its shops, go for lunch

and get to know friendly locals over a lively trad music session.

Great Western Greenway

linkingWestport town to Achill Island. This is the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland. The Greenway traverses

Ireland’s Atlantic coast betweenWestport town and Achill Island and visits the picturesque villages of Newport and Mulranny.

It passes by some of theWest of Ireland’s most dramatic mountains and offers magnificent views of Clew Bay and its many

islands.
