self-guided

walking trails

. Let magical tales of the city’s colourful past

weave their spell as your clients wander off the beaten

track and uncover some of Dublin’s hidden secrets that are

waiting to be revealed to the curious.

The App

This free Dublin Discovery Trails app is available for visitors

to download for iOS and Android devices, and gives the

visitor the chance to uncover the compelling stories of

Dublin’s culture, heritage and history through a series

of engaging audio guides enriched with commentary,

personal accounts, images and GPS-enabled maps with the

route and stops clearly marked on them.

Explore the Trails

There are currently 5 trails:

• Rebellion – Six Days that Shook Dublin

Retrace the dramatic events of the Easter Rising 1916

and hear how these six days changed the course of Irish

history.

• Story of Dublin – Through Streets Broad and Narrow

This trail takes you back centuries to explore the birth of the city as a Viking market town, to

its renaissance as a hub for saints, scholars, poets and playwrights. It will take you on a thrilling

journey through Dublin’s 1000-year history.

• Echoes of War – A Stroll through Historic Kilmainham

Discover a Europe in the grip of WorldWar One, as thousands of Irish men and women enlisted

in the British Army. Explore Collins Barracks, Kilmainham Gaol and Heuston Station and hear the

moving stories of war and rebellion that are now part of Ireland’s psyche.

• Empire – A Tale of Two Cities

Go back in time with this trail to the busy streets of Dublin; you’ll find a city at the heart of the

British Empire in Ireland.

• The ‘Real Dublin’ – Characters, Craft, Industry and Design

The trail takes you into the creative heart of the city, discovering how commerce and design are

inextricably linked throughout Dublin’s history.

Each trail takes approximately two hours on foot.

Interpretive Panels

There are a number of permanent interpretive panels located in the city which are large attractive

storyboards which complement the app and help visitors to discover the stories that shaped Dublin.

These panels will have integrated iBeacon technology to engage and interact with passing visitors who

have downloaded the app.
