Experience
“Walk in the footsteps of our emigrant ancestors”. The Queenstown Story
is a self-guided tour. The exhibition relays the stories of Irish social, naval
and military history and emigration from the harbour of Cobh (known as
Queenstown between 1849 and 1922) from the 17th to the 20th century.
The Heritage Centre is located in the restored railway station, built in the
1860’s, a building with its own historic story, where almost three million
Irish people passed through as they started their voyage of emigration. This
is a multi-media exhibition that includes audio, video, interactive displays,
emigrant’s letters and other artefacts that will engage the visitor and leave
them with a lasting memory. Audio units are available in-German, French,
Spanish, Dutch and Italian. Duration – 1+ hr
