The Medieval Mile Museum is Kilkenny’s newest visitor attraction located in
the heart of the city and the centre of Ireland’s Medieval Mile. The setting is
the 13th century St Mary’s cruciform church and graveyard with its heritage
of medieval and renaissance style tombs of national historical significance.
You will hear stories of the wealthy merchants who built and attended St Marys
church and ruled Kilkenny between 1200 and 1650.The Museum displays Kilkenny’s
Civic Treasures, showcasing the Ossory High Crosses and magnificent stone
carved tombs and many significant artefacts unearthed during the restoration
of this church and surrounding graveyard. Self-guided and guided tours are

Each group is welcomed by a local guide with expert knowledge of local
history and the local environment. The tour begins with a walking tour of the
Park surrounded by woodland. Numerous heritage and nature exhibitions
are visited before entering the Parks Peatland area. Following a visit to the
Peatland exhibition the group is asked to take part in some traditional turf
cutting and then the tour finishes with a trip on Peatland heritage railway.
The group can avail of “tea and scone on the bog” after turf cutting or have
refreshments in a thatched cottage or café after tour. Hand held audio
guides available in 5 languages – French, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish.
Duration – 1 hr min. Tours can be tailored to suit 1 – 3 hrs.
